I'm an avid builder on the server, but in all my builds, I always find something lacking in them. The current materials lack because that they are all a boring, bland default textures that don't allow the user to create impressive bases. Some may argue that certain materials can be abused, but that can be easily solved by just deleting the .vmts and .vmfs of said materials, or even to just enforce the rules as the moderators have been doing so well. I don't see how adding more materials could hurt the server at all.
